A bite plate is a small, removable device that is used to reduce a deep bite, also known as an overbite. This is a type of bite that causes the top row of teeth to come down further than normal, partially or fully covering the bottom row of teeth. Orthodontists need to correct these bite issues before braces treatments in order to get the best results.
What is a Bite Plate?
How Does the Device Work?
Bite plates work in a very simple way. They are usually made out of acrylic and metal wires, just like retainers. They are fitted towards the front of a patient’s mouth, where they create a subtle platform behind the top front teeth. When the mouth is at rest, the tool helps to reset the jaw position. The orthodontist will then examine the bite over time, monitoring the progress and making adjustments as needed.
